MT2 (Melanotan II)

MT2 (Melanotan II) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide, consisting of seven amino-acid residues, developed as an analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Its lactam bridge constrains part of the sequence into a ring. The reference peptide has molecular formula C50H69N15O9, molecular weight approximately 1,024.2 g/mol and CAS number 121062-08-6, excluding salt counterions.

Melanotan II has been studied as an agonist at multiple melanocortin receptor subtypes, including MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R. It differs structurally from the linear 13-amino-acid Melanotan I peptide.
